Research abstract
Wave Motion Launch CorporationĀhas developed the Jet Gun, a compactĀand highly versatile launcher system that conquers the tyranny of distance across multiple fronts. The Jet Gun uses a supersonic jet of gas to accelerate projectiles without a barrel or tube, drastically reducing the size (greater than 50% reductions in length and weight) and therefore logistical burden of munitions launchers. Wave Motion has produced and tested Jet Gun prototypes to validate the basic concept, both in-house and in conjunction with the Office of Naval Research. This direct to Phase II Further development of this technology could lead to successful commercialization of a modified Jet Gun as a means of providing orbital launch at much lower cost compared to multistage rockets.
