Research abstract

Tip & Cue’s Project Boomerang offers an innovative solution addressing the growing challenge of GNSS interference by providing real-time detection, geolocation, and tracking of spoofing and jamming sources. Leveraging data from ground-based, airborne, and spaceborne GNSS receivers (i.e. ATAK, aircraft, satellites), Project Boomerang employs advanced techniques such as Time Difference of Arrival (TDOA), pseudorange differencing, and crowd-sourcing to achieve precise and reliable geolocation of interference sources. Unlike traditional systems requiring specialized hardware and complex synchronization, this approach uses readily available and already-deployed devices across multiple domains, ensuring a cost-effective, scalable, and versatile solution for diverse operational needs. In Phase II, Tip & Cue will deliver a high-fidelity prototype designed to address U.S. Army needs, including mitigating GNSS interference effects, enabling reconnaissance and targeting capabilities, and achieving high-accuracy interference awareness without requiring costly hardware. This will allow the Army and other end-users to develop 24/7, global, real-time coverage of GNSS RFI events and geolocate their source with unprecedented precision. This effort positions Tip & Cue for Phase III scale-up and broader deployment. With the global GNSS anti-RFI market projected to reach $7.13 billion by 2028, and military applications dominating the sector, Tip & Cue’s scalable, device-agnostic, and highly accurate solution is well-positioned to succeed and has attracted considerable interest from the Army, Air Force, DHS, and private sector firms across many sectors.
