Research abstract

Aretķ and our institutional partners at the University of California Santa Barbara (UCSB) propose to develop high-power direct blue emitters and a coherent beam combining laser architecture that is bright, power-scalable, and compact. During Phase I, watt-level single emitters with high-brightness will be demonstrated, along with a design approach to enable coherent combining to achieve at least 15 W. UCSB will lead the efforts of power-scaling single-emitters and developing custom-grown gallium nitride (GaN) tapered amplifier (TA) arrays. Arete will lead the efforts of beam combining, phase control, and system integration.ĀĀ The Aretķ-UCSB collaboration is in a unique position to design, develop, and ultimately produce high brightness blue laser systems.Ā Aretķ has developed and manufactured active and passive sensor systems for nearly 50 years that operate from space to seafloor., We can execute development efforts for specialized DoD and classified applications and have the technical and programmatic infrastructure and experience to produce lasers systems at scale.Ā UCSB is the only US-based University with demonstrated CW Blue InGaN laser capability.
