Research abstract

The objective of the proposed Phase II work is to explore opportunities of modernizing submarine photonics mast reducing its size, weight and power requirements while enhancing its imaging capabilities. More specifically, the next generation of photonics mast would be able: 1. Switching between different Line of Sight (LoS) and Field of View (FoV) in millisecond timescale with no mechanically moving parts, able to cover at least -10 to +60 deg azimuth and 360 deg elevation with a minimum number of high-resolution imaging sensors; 2. Switching between different field of view, also in millisecond timescale, with no mechanically moving parts; 3. Reducing the signature of the mast by reducing its width and providing full situational awareness withĀshorter observation time; 4. Relying on single aperture for different spectral bandwidths ¢ Vis and MWIR are projected for the current development; 5. Switching between polarized and unpolarized observation modes for reducing glare and thus enhancing contrast; 6. Color sequential imaging to increase resolution; 7. Switching from daylight to low-light imaging modes for higher sensitivity
