Research abstract

Assisting the USSF in materializing Fighting SATCOM , the concept of flexible satellite terminals for multi-tenancy introduces key components to accomplish this vision. Ensuring multi-tenancy at satellite terminals and allowing multiple end-users and customers to share the same terminal are key technical challenges to establishing this vision. In the same way, Waveform Architecture for Virtualized Ecosystem (WAVE) aims to revolutionize SATCOM waveform virtualization by fostering an industry-standard ecosystem that supports the virtualization of heterogeneous computing architectures—paving the way for multi-tenancy applications, elastic provisioning, and virtualized remote head-ends. Alignment Consulting and Engineering (ACE) proposes the WAVE- Accelerating Multi-tenancy Platforms (AMP) to investigate the feasibility of employing the WAVE-Gateway architecture as a standard solution for multi-tenant virtualized adaptive digital IF waveforms. WAVE-AMP introduces the following benefits to SATCOM systems: Multi-Tenancy through Virtualization. Freedom from Vendor-Lock Ecosystem Sustainable and Scalable Architecture Lower Total Cost of Ownership Acceleration of Existing and Future Programs The industry consortium for WAVE is forming to standardize software, firmware, and hardware components for a smooth transition from vendor-locked systems to an open, interoperable environment. WAVE's main objective is enabling third-party waveform providers to deploy onto common hardware platforms, enhancing network agility, scalability, and cost-effectiveness. The WAVE family of standards enables advanced SATCOM waveform virtualization through the Gateway, Terminal, and Form components to support multi-tenancy, elastic provisioning, and virtualized head ends. The objectives of this proposal seek to accelerate WAVE implementations. There are three core technical objectives for Phase I: Evaluate the implementation feasibility of the components of the WAVE architecture. Perform feasibility analysis of the virtualization of heterogeneous systems. Determine how 3rd Party vendors integrate into the WAVE architecture. The objectives of this proposal seek to accelerate WAVE implementations to achieve the substantial benefits in multi-tenancy, cost, sustainability, and vendor flexibility for next-generation SATCOM systems.
