Research abstract

The goal of the proposed Phase II effort is to develop a jam-resistant fully adaptive radar (JR-FAR) capability for the Due Regard/Detect and Avoid (DAA) mode of the MOSAIC active electronically scanned array (AESA)-based multimode radar, which is an option for the MQ-25 Stingray, and a potential candidate for several collaborative combat aircraft. The Phase II Base effort will focus on (i) performing a detailed system vulnerability and susceptibility analysis of the proposed DAA Mode for the MQ-25 with current waveforms and proposed JR-FAR waveforms, (ii) updating the Phase I JR-FAR framework and testbed to accurately model and simulate the MQ-25 Stingray operational environment and MOSAIC AESA radar hardware, and (iii) improving the capabilities of the Phase I JR-FAR algorithm to adaptively mitigate jamming while detecting and tracking multiple targets. The Phase II Option effort will focus on refinements and enhancements to the JR-FAR waveforms and selection strategy, and demonstrations/evaluations of system performance using simulated and experimentally collected MOSAIC AESA radar data with targets of opportunity and emulated noise and deceptive jammers.
