Research abstract

Objective: To reduce extreme hazardous peak forces during Military Tandem Tether Bundle (MTTB) parachute operations. During the last several years, the patented ISH Gear Innovations Gravity Force Absorber-System (GFA-SY), has emerged as the only innovative product for reducing (dampening, attenuating, absorbing) peak forces during MTTB parachute operations. We addressed these hazardous forces based on the DoD findings which resulted in a user experiencing 8 to 10 g-forces during an MTTB deployment. We studied and tested this issue through static drops and live MTTB jumps. Our current procedure has proven a 30% - 35% reduction of peak forces. With further testing our current patent pending GFA-SY2 has been able to dramatically reduce peak forces by 45% - 50% or greater. Currently we are meeting or exceeding our objectives of reducing peak forces: 1) From “Exit to Landing” 2) Decrease injuries for users 3) Survivability of the bundle package and 4) Survivability of the parachute system. Phase II SBIR award will facilitate completion of testing to enable USAF approval and field the GFA-SY2 to the end users.
