Research abstract

Faraday Technology will partner with Axine Water Technologies to develop a modular, turnkey system for on-site treatment of spent granular active carbon (GAC). This system will be based on an innovative GAC treatment process that combines nondestructive PFAS desorption with destructive electrochemical oxidation. In this program, we will demonstrate that this GAC treatment process can effectively remove and destroy PFAS from GAC, converting the PFAS into environmentally benign products without producing toxic waste and/or by-products. We will design and construct hardware for this treatment process and integrate this hardware into turnkey storage container that can be assembled off-site and seamlessly integrated into existing water treatment facilities. We will conduct a pilot-scale demonstrations of this turnkey system at a Department of Navy installation. By the end of this program, we will have integrated a full-scale system into a Department of Navy installation and be working with DoD, governmental, and commercial stakeholders to transition this technology into other facilities.
