Research abstract
Modern warfighting relies on vast quantities of information. Critical data supporting operations must be continuously available despite the inherent hazards of conflict zones and inevitable adversary attempts at interdiction. Present public infrastructure favors cost-efficiency over robustness and has demonstrated vulnerabilities to catastrophic outages. Internet applications presume end-to-end connectivity, an extremely questionable presumption in national security contexts. Our approach increases the robustness of client data access in the face of network bandwidth degradation and reduces or eliminates the need for end-to-end connectivity. The Joint All-Domain Command and Control (JADC2) strategy requires robust communications infrastructure. Our innovative technical approach expands robustness beyond the lowest levels to higher levels in the protocol stack. This reduces warfighter vulnerability to bandwidth attrition. In effect, our approach degrades the effectiveness of communications infrastructure (C3CM) attacks.
