Research abstract

Tactical Assault Kit Proficiency (TAKPro) is a proposed solution by Sherpa 6 that leverages machine learning (ML) to address a critical technology gap identified by Army Soldiers and Sherpa 6 personnel on the Nett Warrior (NW) program. NW empowers the Warfighter with improved situational awareness (SA) through leading-edge technology integration, including the Android Tactical Assault Kit (ATAK), a Command and Control (C2), SA, and mission planning mobile device application used by more than 400 military and public safety organizations. TAKPro automatically detects and informs Soldier proficiency in the use of ATAK, leading to significant improvement of Soldier efficiency and lethality on the battlefield. ATAK proficiency impacts movement of data, both laterally and vertically, within the C2 systems for the US GovernmentÆs TAK user base, with over 288,000 US end users. Proficient ATAK users must integrate and share knowledge in a digital format to enhance SA and mission readiness for all ATAK users, ensuring the accuracy and speed of information flowing between elements. To meet these requirements, Soldiers must maintain a constant state of readiness and be prepared to fight at a momentÆs notice with agility and proficiency using all fielded systems, including ATAK. TAKPro collects user-centric data and aggregates it using Watchtower, a proven Army-fielded Enterprise Mobility Manager (EMM) with more than 35,000 users to date, as a central hub for ML model orchestration. TAKPro uses these models to analyze user proficiency, presenting the findings in user friendly, personalized organizational dashboards on multiple platform types (e.g., mobile or laptop). TAKPro includes a Learning Management System (LMS) built upon Watchtower to identify and track training and learning gaps among ATAK end users. Adding a LMS to assessment provides a comprehensive training management system to handle the overall administration, organization, and tracking of training alongside the analytics that show its efficacy. This combination provides an integrated and holistic approach to training customized for and targeted to the TAK ecosystem.
