Research abstract
The Army is strategically preparing for a confrontation with China. The vast Pacific Ocean creates a ōtyranny of distanceö scenario where the sheer size of the area of operations (AOR) limits the ArmyÆs combat readiness and force projection capabilities. The Army lacks dynamic logistics/supply chain planning capabilities that ensure rapid resupply of material and aid. ĀChina will attack logistics lines using asymmetric weapons and unconventional means. A ōhot warö will terminate trade with China, meaning critical raw materials and sub-components will become available. This lack of logistical contingency planning capabilities will reduce the ArmyÆs ability to transport forces across the Pacific to prosecute a land war against China.Ā The Army requires an advanced logistics planning capability that harvests the enormous amount of logistical and supply chain data on-hand and enables it to better plan and model supply chain contingencies and shocks. r4 Technologies proposes a Phase I feasibility study to determine how to modify and adapt its commercially available XEM Logistics Planning Platform to enhance current Army supply chain and logistics planning, to ensure rapid and timely resupply of material and aid over this vast distance and contested environment.
