Research abstract

In the modern battlespace, soldiers much increasingly operate in dispersed, expeditionary, squad-centric missions, with rapidly changing mission needs. These operations require nimble transportation of personnel and equipment that cannot be met by current rotary aircraft. A V/STOL aircraft capable of ingress/egress into small unimproved locations without access to air fields is greatly needed. These aircraft must be easy to operate by Special Operations soldiers without the need for lengthy flight school instruction. Additionally, they need to be fast, quiet and inexpensive with adequate range to operate from secured areas. These mission level requirements designate a technological demand which is not realized by today's state of the art. The ProJector Aircraft outlined in this proposal represents a new paradigm in VTOL capability that can provide our military with the strategic advantage in battlefield operation by a new level of aircraft maneuverability, efficiency and performance.
