Research abstract

The United States Air Force has broadened career enlisted aviator height. The expanded and diversified aircrew population poses great challenges to the fit of Aircrew Flight Equipment (AFE) and the accommodation of Aircraft Crew Stations (ACSs). Therefore, in Phase I, we converted Human Digital Twin (HDT), which is our non-defense commercial solution to Airman Digital Twin (ADT) and explored combining ADT with advanced digital technologies to create an Integrated Digital Engineering Environment for Airman Accommodation and Fit (IDEEA). The goal of Phase II is to deliver the proposed software platform with the scope of work covering the research, development, test, and evaluation of the proposed solution. Phase II tasks include software framework construction, airman digital twin creation, tool and capability development for AFE and ACS modeling, helmet subsystem construction, body armor subsystem construction, IDEEA software system integration, test, and evaluation, and technology transition and commercialization. By creating an integrated digital engineering environment, the testing and evaluation of the fit of AFE and the accommodation of ACS can be conducted virtually in an immersive 3D environment. By utilizing ADT, the accommodation, fit, and protection will be optimized for each individual airman, thus providing bio-fidelic, dynamic, holistic, and personalized results.
