Research abstract

The proposed Phase II solution creates a novel standalone AI-enabled MSK Triage Assessment Kiosk (AMTAK) which will be a first-of-its-kind offering by integrating Sparta’s hardware and software Force Plate Machine Learning (FPML) and Sparta Movement Health Platform (SMHP) technologies with Northeastern University’s markerless motion capture (aka machine vision) technology. The resulting technology will expand the reach of rehabilitative care team’s (physical therapists, athletic trainers, strength and conditioning specialists, physicians) who evaluate and treat MSKIs but are over-tasked and unable to meet the needs of all service members experiencing MSK dysfunction. Building a stand-alone, self-guided assessment capability that captures rich, multi-modal data will enable Airmen to conduct the assessments on their own schedule rather than waiting for an appointment. The data captured by AMTAK will be remotely accessible by rehabilitative care teams who will now be able to expediently determine airmen who need health intervention. The 24/7 nature of AMTAK will vastly expand access to high-quality MSK healthcare for underserved (but chronically injured) shift working populations while optimizing the productivity of overtasked and undermanned rehabilitation care teams. Ultimately saving time, saving money, improving quality of life, and restoring mission readiness across the Air Force and DoD.
