Research abstract
ICON has developed the following program plan to build ScifOS. To achieve our objectives, tasks will include development, installation, integration, demonstration and/or test and evaluation of our proposed prototype software workflow and related systems. ICON will enhance the current software workflow in BuildOS, creating ScifOS, which will be a software product and workflow including new elements to meet the specific needs of future customers in the space. This falls into three main categories: Design, Build, and Reporting / Accreditation. ICON’s BuildOS team will establish a comprehensive "SCIF wall system" by digitally defining all parameters required to design, build, and accredit such facilities. ICON will develop the capability to convert the architectural geometry, as drawn by designers, into the appropriate print-ready geometry required for constructing SCIFs. To complement this, we will provide detailed documentation on reinforcement placement within the walls, electrical fixture integration, plumbing chases, etc. In order to cater to the diverse security and performance needs of various sponsors, the proposed ScifOS wall system technology will offer configurable settings that can be applied to the architectural geometry. This flexibility enables us to meet stringent requirements from different sponsors and ensure that the resulting design and printed structures are capable of accreditation. To achieve this objective, ScifOS will develop new support for wall-system rule-sets. These rule-sets will prioritize more stringent sponsor requirements and superseding policies over conventional building code requirements, while also inheriting pre-existing codes that apply. By doing so, we can construct cost-effective structures that comply with all regulatory policies mandated for SCIFs. This approach ensures that our solution is adaptable to the specific needs of each sponsoring organization while maintaining compliance with necessary regulations. To streamline the accreditation process, BuildOS will develop an automated approach that generates the documentation for approvals and regulatory compliance. This feature will significantly simplify the accreditation process for inspectors, saving valuable time and effort for the builder. Applied rulesets will trigger AI-enhanced prompts from photos, scans, and process data collected during the additive construction process. This solution will compile all pertinent information into a comprehensive report, providing evidence of adherence to the sponsor's specified building codes as well as flagging areas of concern at design time, and throughout the build. This improved software workflow will provide non-security personnel, designers, and builders with an end-to-end solution to construct and accredit secure facilities with varying sponsor requirements, with a minimal cost to the user, and substantial improvements to the processes which currently increase cost and block potential vendors from competition.
