Research abstract

In the current market, the is no low-cost option for a sensors and computational nodes that conduct CBM (condition-based maintenance), with options for performing CBM focused AI/ML at the edge under low-power constraints. Therefore, there is no commercially available, ready solution for the US Navy and Marine Corps CBM vision. Research into the industrial and automotive CBM marketplaces shows that there is a sizable market for such low-cost sensor and computational nodes, which has convinced Fathom5 that pursuing this technology as a dual-use product is viable. In response to this finding, Fathom5 set about to determine if our concept of a low-cost, low power expandable network sensor could be designed within the cost and form factor constraints of the ONR program. The answer to this inquiry is a resounding yes. Fathom5 has developed the the first alpha run of the LENS boards to prove that a low-cost, low-power CBM solution is viable.
