Research abstract

Over the last decade the Streamline Automation/WFU team have been developing a highly disruptive, room-temperature quantum computing technology that will be capable of operating inside portable devices under real-world conditions. The enabling technology is topological insulators, a special class of materials hypothesized in the 1980s, first observed in the early 2000s, and awarded their discoverers the 2016 Nobel Prize in physics. During Phase I the SA/WFU team pursued the development of a 5-qubit processor and demonstrated the feasibility of 1) being able to use proprietary lithography techniques to fabricate TI qubits in quantity on silicon substrates, 2) create a prototype quantum processor circuit, and 3) manufacture a mask that will enable us to fabricate qubits quickly and in large quantity to meet the ambitious goals set forth in this proposal. In Phase II we will fabricate and test a 5-qubit processor with error-correcting circuitry to improve fidelity and performance. Starting with Quantum Tomography techniques, we will develop and fabricate error-correction hardware for the 5-qubit processor, and working with our second partner, USF, will integrate our hardware with their quantum wireless communication system.
