Research abstract

Quantum computer technology is critical and strategic to the Air Force. Quantum processor technology based on topological insulator (TI) qubits is inherently stable and fault-tolerant because it exploits local topological symmetries. TI are a new class of materials whose discovery resulted in the 2016 Nobel Prize. Our TI qubit technology enables edge, room temperature quantum computing and is compatible with conventional silicon fabrication techniques. University of Dayton and Streamline Automation are working together to implement Probabilistic Decision Engine quantum algorithms into a TI quantum processor to produce the world-first real-time, distributed decision engine for autonomous path planning, resource allocation, dynamic targeting, traffic management, autonomous flying of swarms and other critical Air Force missions, especially in contested, degraded, and operationally limited (CDO) environments. Edge Quantum Computing systems that can be deployed on aircraft and autonomous systems will provide the USAF with unmatched capability in real-time distributed decision support, machine learning and uncertainty reasoning, sensor fusion, and real-time optimization enabling autonomous decisions. This technological advantage and market interest in quantum computing has enabled us to work with a Private Equity firm about fundraising. The development of a quantum computer with PDE software that exploits the exponential speedup of quantum processors enables multi-layer learning-driven predictive control for autonomous vehicles beyond today’s capabilities.
