Research abstract

Modern non-standard commercial vehicles (NSCVs) are computers with wheels. Today’s special operations forces (SOF) are reliant on these vehicles and, therefore, their onboard computer and navigation systems, to provide the assured ground mobility with reduced signature necessary to execute high-risk missions around the world. These computer systems and their added functionality represents an unmitigated attack vector and source of signature for the operator. A capable and determined adversary could utilize these broad attack surfaces to disrupt or deny SOF warfighters from achieving their desired end states on the battlefield. RRAI proposes development of a robust navigation solution for NSCVs with Tactical Awareness Kit (TAK) integration. With such a technology, additional mission sets would be unlocked as well as a variety of underserved commercial markets. Such a system would also create a platform to enable other operationally relevant capabilities such as fully autonomous driving.
