Research abstract

Current navigation approaches used in the contested environment must rely heavily on inertial measurement units (IMUs). To address this critical national defense need, Spectral Energies, LLC (SE) is proposing to use its machine learning (ML) algorithms to aid widely available lower-grade IMUs such that their performance matches that of a higher-grade IMU. SE has demonstrated that the performance of a high-end tactical grade IMUaided by our ML matches the performance of a navigation grade IMU). During Phase II, SE will develop and train the ML algorithms tuned fora specific IMU device. SE will also ensure sufficient sampling speeds and finally demonstrate the ML approach in a relevant environment that is of interest to Missile Defense Agency (MDA).
