Research abstract

In response to the need for ground vehicle navigation in GPS-denied zones, IHIO Innovations Corporation (IHIO) proposes to develop Artificial Intelligence Navigation with Error Correction (AINEC) in GPS-denied zones that provides 3D locations and traces of a ground vehicle on the team awareness kit (TAK) platform day and night irrespective of terrains and environments. AINEC is based on comprehensive error quantification (EQ) with deep neural network (NN) learning to estimate vehicle locations by using 1) an inertial measurement unit (IMU) inside an Android phone consisting of accelerometers, gyroscopes, and magnetometers without any GPS and RF signals or 2) onboard vehicle data. The innovation in EQ allows for quantifying complete error characteristics involved in the location estimation process using inertial sensors and driving data via deep-learning inferences without linear and Gaussian assumptions. IHIO will demonstrate the feasibility of AINEC based on AI inferences with all-inclusive IMU error correction with comparisons of other state-of-the-art approaches and a plan for Phase II.
