Research abstract

???????Interior spaces such as warehouses, ship-holds, or hangars present unique coverage and capacity challenges for a cellular network due to their often-complex shape, metallic surfaces, and changing environment.  To address these challenges, GXC proposes iCover5G, a 5G private cellular network that allows for flexible and dynamic coverage and capacity in even the most challenging environments.  iCover5G is O-RAN compliant, with coverage extension and seamless mobility provided by a fronthaul multiplexer (FHM) positioned between the DU and multiple RUs.  This system forms a Shared-Cell, creating a 1:N relationship between the DU and RUs, greatly reducing the edge compute cost and complexity.  To maintain KPIs in the presence of changing environment and network demand, user device and core statistics are used to inform an RU mapping algorithm, which optimizes the Shared-Cell groupings.  This optimization process can reconfigure the Shared-Cell mapping either through event-scheduled updates, or automatically in response to changes in network demand.
