Research abstract

Technical Abstract Magnetometer-based ATAK Guidance for Network Evaluation of Threats and Operational-Conditions (MAGNETO) leverages the magnetometers in smartphones to sense and map RF spectrum data. By utilizing the smartphoneÆs magnetometer capabilities, MAGNETO provides an innovative approach to detecting and analyzing RF signals, enabling efficient spectrum mapping and sensing for various applications such as precision strike, battle tracking of friendly and neutral forces, base defense, detecting and identify adversary devices, and the ability to mass fires and disrupt adversaries. Overview During our Phase I Period of Performance, Team S2RC will explore leveraging the magnetometers in smartphones like the Samsung S20TE to sense and map RF spectrum data. By utilizing the smartphoneÆs magnetometer capabilities, we hypothesize MAGNETO provides an innovative approach to detecting and analyzing RF signals, enabling efficient spectrum mapping and sensing for various applications such as precision strike and the ability to mass fires and disrupt adversaries. Our initial tests and proof of concept have yielded favorable results and The insight has provided us with very clear and highly compelling understanding of DAF end users needs and preliminary Phase I and Phase II SBIR goals. Our intent during the Phase I effort is to refine requirements in preparation for a follow-on Phase II.
