Research abstract

HyperView represents a pioneering endeavor to leverage High-Performance Computing (HPC) technology in space. Our innovation lies in seamlessly integrating proven technologies to enable early detection, as well as real time monitoring of fast-moving objects. By performing high-performance data processing directly onboard a low latency asset, the information chain can be substantially shortened. The baseline for hypersonic object detection predominantly relies on ground-based systems. However, the limitations of these systems in terms of coverage and response time make them insufficient for addressing emerging challenges in hypersonic threat detection. In our vision, a constellation of space borne observational platforms is intended to serve as a surveillance system for tracking, and monitoring fast moving objects to provide real-time insights, diagnostics (friend or foe), as well as health monitoring information. As an initial technology demonstration, we are focusing on using Schlieren imaging to characterize the shock wave ōfingerprintö generated by hypersonic vehicles. This is one of several possible HPC image processing capabilities.
