Research abstract
The effectiveness and mission length of critical Space Force satellites is hampered by the reliability of batteries. While much funding has been dedicated to increasing satellite fuel constraints, batteries remain a challenge.Ā Haylon Technologies proposes a combination of hardware and software to prolong the mission length and reliability of satellites through a battery design that intelligently switching between two kinds of battery cells to maximize overall performance. By pairing novel high-capacity battery cells such as lithium sulfur with high-power cells such as lithium titanate, Haylon can dramatically increase the capacity, cycle-lives, and durability of a battery pack. This can enable novel technologies to become usable in critical Space Force applications, potentially increasing achievable satellite lifespan by >300%.
