Research abstract
Clonal Hematopoiesis of Indeterminate Potential (CHIP) is a phenomenon where certain blood cells acquire genetic mutations over time. These mutations can accumulate due to various factors, including the natural aging process and environmental exposures. Recognizing the significance of these mutations, especially in the context of disease susceptibility and progression, NuOrigen has introduced a groundbreaking testing platform designed to identify and monitor these genetic aberrations in blood cell DNA. The core of this innovative platform is the application of Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS) to Blood DNA. This approach ensures a comprehensive analysis of the genetic landscape of blood cells. Key features of the NGS platform include: - Gene Targeted Sequencing Panel: The platform boasts an impressive coverage of over 1000x, ensuring that even the rarest mutations are not missed. - Key Gene Inclusion: The sequencing panel specifically targets genes known to be associated with CHIP, including TET2, DNMT3A, and TP53. - Sensitivity: The platform can detect mutations present in as low as 1% of the cell fraction, ensuring that even early-stage accumulations are identified. - Germline Mutation Detection: In addition to identifying acquired mutations, the platform is equally adept at detecting germline or inherited mutations. This dual capability provides a holistic view of an individual's genetic makeup and potential disease risks. - CLIA-Registered Laboratory: To ensure the highest standards of quality and reliability, all tests are conducted in a CLIA-registered laboratory. The implications of this platform are profound. Early detection and identification of mutations associated with disease risk can pave the way for timely interventions, potentially preventing the onset of diseases or mitigating their severity. Furthermore, by monitoring identified mutations over time, healthcare providers can gain insights into disease progression and adjust treatment strategies accordingly. The potential health benefits of this platform extend beyond hematological disorders. By decreasing the incidence of bloodborne cancers, cardiovascular diseases (CVD), chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), chronic liver diseases, and osteoporosis, this test can play a pivotal role in enhancing the health outcomes of high-risk populations. NuOrigen's testing platform represents a paradigm shift in our understanding and management of CHIP and associated diseases. By harnessing the power of NGS and focusing on both acquired and inherited mutations, this platform offers a unique opportunity to interrogate disease risk and susceptibility at both personal and population levels, heralding a new era in precision medicine.
