Research abstract

In this effort, PSI will develop high-speed digital photoreceivers and photoreceiver arrays coupled to OM4 multimode fiber (MMF). The modules will be optimized for shortwave wavelength division multiplexing (SWDM) and course wavelength division multiplexing (CWDM), which spans 844 ¢ 1331 nm. RF and optical simulations will be performed within the Phase I to achieve high-speed and excellent wideband optical coupling efficiency to OM4 fiber, respectively. The module will then be ruggedized to maintain operational stability within the mil-aero environment, spanning temperatures from -40 ¢ 95 ░C. The single-channel design will be optimized based on novel uni-traveling carrier (UTC) photodetector (PD) structure developed in cooperation with subcontractor University of Virginia. Further plans will be developed to support 2-channel and 4-channel subassembly arrays at >100 Gbps per channel within the Phase II.
