Advancing Digital Metrology and the Digital Thread in the NAVAIR Enterprise

This proposed Phase I work will provide a proof of principle demonstration for a system that will leverage Digital Thread (DT) and Model-Based Enterprise (MBE) principles to address identified capability gaps in the NAVAIR and broader DoD manufacturing and inspection process workflows.Ā Specifically, it will (a) develop measurement uncertainty evaluation techniques for articulated arm CMMs (AACMMs), (b) develop criteria for guard banding and required measurement uncertainty based on component criticality, and (c) embody those techniques and criteria in a toolset supporting implementation of inspection plans optimized for time and/or cost.Ā Integration of this toolset into existing and future workflows will be facilitated by use of Quality Information Framework (QIF) data formats throughout.Ā The product of the Phase I R&D will be instantiations of the toolset components as executable code.Ā A Phase I Option, if funded, will develop a strategy for integrating the toolset components seamlessly into NAVAIR workflows.
