Research abstract

Phase I of this work provided a proof of principle demonstration of a system that will leverage Digital Thread (DT) and Model-Based Engineering (MBE) principles to address identified capability gaps in the NAVAIR and broader DoD manufacturing and inspection process workflows. Specifically, it addressed a) measurement uncertainty evaluation techniques for articulated arm coordinate measuring machines (AACMMs), b) criteria for guardbanding and required measurement uncertainty based on component criticality, and  c) incorporation of those techniques and criteria into a software toolset supporting implementation of inspection plans optimized for time and/or cost. Integration of this toolset into existing and future workflows will be facilitated by use of Quality Information Framework (QIF) data formats throughout. This work  continues to be developed under a Phase I Option contract. The proposed Phase II and Phase II Option will
