Research abstract
The LIT Solar Delta Cooling System is comprised of: •Parabolic Mirrored Trough: Produced in house by Low Impact Technologies, the Parabolic Troughs are uniquely designed to capture maximum sunlight for the desired reflective effect to ensure optimal power to the generator. •Horizontal Distillation Column: In the Solar Delta Cooling system, the traditional vertical distillation column is replaced by a horizontal column which is held above the parabolic troughs reflecting concentrated solar light to be used in the energy transfer process. •Condenser, Evaporator, and Absorber. How does it work? •The proposed system supports an absorption system in which there is an absorption cooling system on each side of the parabolic solar trough. •The absorption cooling systems will not have a generator since the generator has been equipped within the parabolic solar trough, which is something novel that no competitor does. •The unit within the focal point of the Parabolic trough is a combined solar thermal absorber and the generator of the absorption cooling system •The cooling water loop in the condenser provides the cooling of the very hot water vapor (or steam) to convert it to liquid water that is expanded in the expansion valve to provide additional cooling to the overall system. •The condensed water is then fed through and an expansion valve and into evaporator, letting down the pressure, which immediately provides a cooling effect. •Within the evaporator is the building/facility cooling loop which provides cooling to the structure being cooled. •Water vapor from evaporator then flows back to the absorber for the process to repeat and provide the continuous cooling process. Benefits: •Fully self-sustaining •A significant reduction in Greenhouse Emissions. •Much lower maintenance cost when compared with market standards of comparable systems. •The solar absorption cooling unit will require less capital than traditional compressor-based cooling systems •LIT develops and designs technology surrounding CSP and green energy initiatives that involve the adaptation of concentrated solar power and a reduction in materials which leave more significant carbon footprints. •This approach to cooling, refrigeration, and housing has allowed LIT and partners to position themselves for stand-out success in a global green-energy marketplace. •LIT’s solutions are self-sustaining green systems built on a strong foundation of best practices and knowledge. •LIT has been working with JWA in Australia to bring the technology to the Australian Mining companies. Low Impact Technologies intends to provide the DoD with an alternative heating and cooling method. LIT’s solution will help the Air Force meet its sustainability requirements, while also delivering technology that requires reduced technical hurdles, relies less on the supply chain, and is more easily implementable in remote/hostile regions.
