Research abstract

Integrating Asymmetric Technologies’ IronClad Secure Flight Controller (SFC) for sUAS with Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning (AI/ML) capabilities will significantly reduce soldier burden by putting automated and actionable capabilities onboard the aircraft. The enhancements proposed here will allow for onboard processing of information and separation of what is important from what is not, presented in ways that can be quickly understood. Soldiers and Airmen are increasingly connected with more gear and resources, but at time these additional resources can lead to cognitive overload, decreased fighting capabilities or even confusion on the battlefield. The IronClad AI/ML integration effort will reduce this burden by automating many tasks that currently need to be done manually, done by multiple operators, or can’t be completed due to the need to complete higher priority tasks. Specific tasks will include integration of IronClad with a Mod Payload-compliant capability, AI/ML architecture optimization on IronClad, and development/integration of four AI/ML modules to decrease soldier burden and increase mission capabilities.
