Research abstract

Under this Phase 2 effort, Areté will develop, characterize, and deliver HydroSIM, a Real-Time Subsea Sensor Simulator for ROVs and UUVs.    HydroSIM will allow for creation of synthetic subsea scenes utilizing physics-based models including video, sonar, and target-environment-illumination interactions.  This program addresses the challenge of collecting real sensory data for system development and optimization, mission planning, and operator training.  A physics based simulator allowing insertion of targets, variations of backgrounds and environmental conditions provides Mine Warfare (MiW) programs an always available, low-cost real-time scene generation solution.  HydroSIM builds on Areté’s prior SBIR simulation and modeling technology.   HydroSIM will extend existing capabilities by adding more physics based models, enable generation of thousands of synthetic images of optical and sonar sensory data for AI/ML training, and provide an open interface supporting multiple MiW program.
