Research abstract

Areté is developing a low-cost and low-power underwater lidar solution as an alternative to the current AN/AQS-20 EOID minehunting sensor. The technical approach will provide equivalent or better performance at lower system production costs and will leverage realtime processing capability that Areté already demonstrate. This development iteration will provide a pixelated green illuminator for improved optical propagation in operationally relevant waters, upgrade a previously developed receiver, and fabricate new hull segments to accommodate the transmitter modifications. The sensor system will be integrated with a towbody to enable testing over representative targets and will be demonstrated in an appropriate maritime environment. An Automatic Target Recognition (ATR) capability will be developed for use with sensor data.
