Research abstract

The U.S. Air Force does not utilize the vast amounts of information that it collects from sorties to develop optimal flight schedules, improve scheduled maintenance and maximize aircraft uptime. The multiple platforms in which sortie information is collected, stored, and analyzed creates a barrier to enabling actionable insights for the Air Force Maintenance (MX) Enterprise. There are a number of official systems of record managed by Air Force personnel that are data silos and inhibit data-driven decision making. The primary systems currently being used by the 86 MXG include G081, REMIS, GACP, GLOBAL REACH, AIRCAT, GDSS, CEMS, TBA, C2IMERA, CDDOC and more. Moreover, unit level information is stored in Access Databases and Excel spreadsheets and is used in conjunction with the aforementioned systems to make everyday decisions in the field. There is too much data and variables for human consumption that continues to lead to inefficient solutions for aircraft flight scheduling and maintenance. As a result, there are a limited number of Air Force personnel who have requisite context to make decisions.
