Research abstract
Candelytics is developing a proprietary LIDAR-based software solution that enables the seamless collection, analytics, and sharing of 3D data. Our mission is to democratize access to 3D data and revolutionize human interaction with the physical world. Specifically, Candelytics is building software that provides advanced 3D visualization capabilities; automatic linear, area, and volumetric measurements; A/B differential analysis; and 3D object segmentation and recognition. Our company is also developing a middleware digital infrastructure to store, tag, and share 3D data on a browser-based platform. Candelytics’ 3D data repository will leverage both real-world and synthetic data to develop advanced 3D applications powered by machine learning models such as 3D search, object recognition, spatial awareness, and predictive maintenance and analysis. As the winners of the DoD's inaugural Defense Innovation Accelerator - a National Security Innovation Network program - Candelytics has demonstrated our technology to the U.S. Coast Guard via nine virtual demonstrations and two on-site demonstrations at Coast Guard Sectors San Diego and Miami. Participants also included representatives from the DEA, CBP, and Tactical Law Enforcement (TACLET) teams. Candelytics has developed prototype software that allowed Coast Guard operators to execute basic change detection and volumetric calculations on point cloud data and added features that allowed users to annotate voids and suspicious areas that could represent smuggling compartments. We have also demonstrated our technology for the U.S. Air Force with a focus on expeditionary airfield construction, the Rapid Airfield Damage Assessment System (RADAS) program, and airfield repair. Air Force civil engineer units and airfield managers have encouraged Candelytics to further develop and test our technology to allow airfield construction and recovery teams to identify Foreign Object Debris (FOD) and conduct damage assessments (e.g., crater or hurricane analytics) more quickly and effectively. Having performed more than 250 customer discovery interviews, Candelytics has developed a deep understanding of the capabilities and technical gaps within the field of 3D data. We have discovered is a critical need to develop a tactical platform that will enable users to quickly view large 3D data files, share this information in near real-time, and generate machine-learning models that can provide predictive analytics capabilities. The Coast Guard and Air Force use cases highlight just two of many pain points that Candelytics' software solution can address. The coming revolution in 3D data will fundamentally alter the way humans interact with the physical world. Candelytics is developing the digital infrastructure that will make 3D data more accessible and insightful for dual-use commercial and government stakeholders.
