Research abstract

MatrixSpace has created a unique multimodal RF subsystem called DopplerSpace. DopplerSpace is a low-cost, small form factor, software defined communication and radar subsystem designed for integration into a wide variety of different equipment types from different vendors. This RF modular system will enhance a variety of military and commercial applications, including autonomous UAVs, ground robot devices, wearable soldier technology, vehicles, fixed sensor nodes, and more. It is a critical enabling technology component of MatrixSpace’s distributed autonomous swarming systems. The challenges DopplerSpace will address are wide-ranging, including searching and tracking multiple ground and/or airborne targets in large areas such as DoD installations, coordinating multiple autonomous systems deployed to respond to a developing situation, and addressing multiple simultaneous threats to an installation.  Specifically, DopplerSpace will be a key part of autonomous SUAVs for alert investigation and persistent surveillance to maintain base security. During Phase II, MatrixSpace will conduct testing of DopplerSpace to prove its performance benefits and verify enhancements to a variety of use-cases. The result will be a flight tested drone form factor appropriate communications and radar module ready to move to final product development and DoD acquisition.
