Research abstract

The purpose of this Phase 2 effort is to modify and adapt the Primo Wind Expeditionary Power Pack (EPP) hybrid wind and solar power system for use by the 621 Contingency Response Support Squadron (621 CRSS), within the 621 Contingency Response Wing (CRW) in global contingency operations in austere environments. The goal is for the modified/adapted EPP to provide light-weight, cost-effective, and rapidly deployable power units that take up less space in transport aircraft and power critical appliances for contingencies in areas either lacking grid power or austere environments requiring a lighter footprint. The EPP will use wind and solar power instead of traditional expensive diesel generators, which also saves costs and introduces a sustainable alternative power source for future operations.
