Research abstract
KMS Solutions proposes the development of a modular modeling and simulation (M&S) environment that integrates logistics timing, thermal and structural surrogate models, discrete event simulation (DES), and SysML-based system behaviors with hypersonic weapon systems. The objective is to demonstrate the feasibility of Modeling and Simulation as a Service (MSaaS) tool that captures Time-Constrained mission critical windows based on system behavior, Concept of Operations (CONOPS), and dependencies on external systems or institutions. This architecture will enable a scalable, physics informed simulation framework aligned with Navy digital engineering priorities for weapon systems with tightly constrained operational timelines, allowing stakeholders to evaluate logistics, conduct rapid tradeoff studies, and directly support mission planning, sustainment analysis, and lifecycle readiness modeling. This Phase I effort will address lifecycle-aware logistics challenges by modeling readiness and reliability constraints during the preparation, pre-launch, launch, and post-launch phases. The proposed environment introduces a novel, modular M&S architecture that integrates DES, SysML-driven behavior modeling, and physics-informed surrogate models for thermal and structural effects. These components are implemented as containerized microservices within an open, service-based MSaaS framework, enabling flexible orchestration, modular validation, and secure remote execution. The tool chain leverages digital thread integration principles to provide traceable, scenario-specific insights across mission phases. Timing thresholds, environmental stressors, and system degradation models will be linked to simulated mission timelines.Phase I will establish the architectural foundation, validate timing and readiness surrogates, and demonstrate the integration of modeling layers in containerized environments. The approach supports direct transition to classified environments and broader Navy applications, including readiness modeling for hypersonic systems, strike platforms, and next-generation undersea vehicles.
