Research abstract

The R350 High Output (HO) engine family is a heavy-fuel rotary propulsion system designed to meet the evolving needs of the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps for autonomous maritime and expeditionary operations. With a focus on high power density, efficiency, and reliability, the R350 HO addresses critical challenges associated with traditional air-cooled rotary engines, including corrosion, lubricant degradation, and operational wear in humid, saline, and dust-prone environments. Baker Engineeringís proprietary enhancementsóincluding advanced coatings, closed crankcase design, and tribological optimizationódeliver unmatched durability and mission readiness for unmanned aerial systems (UAS), extended-range eVTOL platforms, and maritime robotic systems. Improvements to reduce coating and materials cost, while maintaining and enhancing engine corrosion resistance and performance will be implemented. Based on the TRL 9 R350d and with a validated TRL 6 status and successful endurance testing, the R350 HO stands poised to revolutionize propulsion solutions for ISR, logistics, and autonomous resupply missions.
