Research abstract
Why: The Problem StatementFor the first time in history, peer adversaries can target friendly forces in concentrated locations at will driving dispersed formations and tactics across the globe. ÝWhile operating from dispersed locations, friendly forces are integrating and utilizing autonomous platforms at scale and attempting to aggregate and fuse data at the edge requiring drastically increased bandwidth and compute capabilities. ÝTo further complicate this problem set, adversaries are contesting freedom of mobility and denying access to existing communications infrastructure. ÝThe imminent and reoccurring threat poses significant challenges existing communication infrastructure, command, and control for the US Navy, Joint, and Multinational Partner forces.ÝÝThe Solution: Orb Autonomous Resilient Communications (Orb ARC) On Demand 5G InfrastructureRapidly Deployable Communications Infrastructure On-DemandÝWho: Orb provides interoperable solutions to customers that want to operate them or provides Contract Owned Contract Operated service to those who just need their communications to work in their greatest time of need. ÝTrue interoperability means Orb ARC can aggregate all available communications services to provide resilient backhaul, translate between parties using different radios, networks, and common operating pictures, and integrate autonomous platform telemetry and sensor data at the edge.ÝWhat: To meet this need, Orb developed Autonomous Resilient Communications (Orb ARC), the worlds most robust network for its own autonomous assets and to become communications infrastructure for others. ÝOrb ARC is a resilient communications network running an unclassified common operating picture with integrated command and control. ÝThe network is infinitely scalable with rapidly deployable backpack size ground nodes and autonomous airborne nodes. ÝÝWhere: Orb Aerospace was created to design, build, and fly new types of transition aircraft that can operate without infrastructure and provide rapidly deployable communications infrastructure on-demand to those in need in places that have either never had infrastructure or have lost it due to natural or manmade disasters. ÝÝWhen: On Demand. ÝOrb ARC has successfully demonstrated communication resiliency, interoperability, and autonomous platform integration during military experimentation in a contested EW environment, in a Maritime environment, in Agile Combat Employment, in Combat Search and Rescue, and Hurricane Helene response with Fixed Wing, Rotor Wing. UAVs, USVs, and UGVs. ÝÝWhat's Next: Providing 5G through the same proven Orb ARC Edge Architecture with both private, closed, and interoperable mesh networks using autonomous platforms to expand the network over the horizon.ÝÝ
