Research abstract

To solve the urgent and important problem of aircraft navigation over the ocean in GPS-denied environments, Areté proposes to develop and build ARION: Airborne Referenced Imaging for Ocean Navigation. The ARION system will utilize wave referencing algorithms and passive imaging to correct a navigation solution degraded by the absence of GPS. In Phase 1, Areté proved the technical merit of ARION by developing the necessary algorithms and performing a proof-of-concept study. In Phase 2, Areté will build a prototype system and test its performance in an operationally relevant environment and aircraft
