Research abstract

PlateJoy is applying for the Phase II SBIR grant through the USAF’s AFWERX program. PlateJoy will use the funding to partner with the USAF’s Diabetes Center of Excellence to pilot its weight management and disease prevention programs. PlateJoy’s programs are successful in the commercial space; the ultimate goal of the project will be to work with the DCOE to determine what modifications need to be made to build a military-specific version of the products to be deployed at scale in Phase III and beyond. PlateJoy is a digital health company that uses medical nutritional science and behavioral science to generate positive clinical outcomes for its patients. The programs have industry-leading outcomes and engagement and are fully reimbursed by some of the largest health plans in the commercial space. In partnership with the DCOE, PlateJoy will use the Phase II funding to evaluate outcomes and engagement relative to its commercial business; the DCOE will evaluate outcomes relative to the outcomes of other deployed interventions. Together, the deliverable of the project will be a collaborative, data-driven roadmap for how PlateJoy can modify the non-defense product to best suit the DoD in a scalable, cost-effective way to mitigate cost and enhance military readiness.
