Research abstract

Our proposal specifically addresses the requirements of the solicitation: we will develop and deploy tools, methods, and models that will result in the capability to scan and evaluate printed circuit boards to detect hardware Trojans. The proposed Edaptive ANDOT solution builds on previous Edaptive Computing, Inc (ECI) and subcontractor knowledge and technology to solve the problem of detecting hardware Trojans in ICs on printed circuit boards. It will include the ability to extract chip functionality from representative ICs in the absence of full data concerning the IC designs. It will leverage features of known hardware Trojans from an existing Trust hub. The Phase I effort will study the feasibility of different imaging modalities, applied separately or in conjunction with electrical testing, for non-destructive authentication The resulting capabilities of the finished product will provide assurance of the security of circuit boards under test using non-destructive methods. Prior experience and new research have already shown that ECI’s and our subcontractor’s capabilities and expertise are ideally-suited to applying imaging technology to scan circuit boards for the presence of unauthorized components. The ANDOT solution will apply and extend this technology to detect the presence of hardware Trojans within ICs on printed circuit boards.
