Research abstract

Recurring and proficiency training leveraging Virtual Reality (VR) and Mixed Reality (MR) is a cloud-based, lesson deployment system that allows operators to complete non-classified training in virtual reality headsets to fulfill qualification requirements for recurring and proficiency training. Program will be designed for the Warner Robins Air Logistics Complex (WR-ALC). This light-weight virtual reality training system can have applications across the AirForce where limited instructor/classroom time or access to physical locations results in delays to airmen acquiring qualifications. This program will leverage VR/MR technology and training systems being used by top consulting firms in the private sector to develop a customized, turn key solution designed specifically for WR-ALC maintainers to increase proficiency training and shorten wait times for depot level maintenance. Creating an integrated immersive maintenance proficiency training system will benefit the more than 100,000 maintainers across the Air Force’s active and reserve components. Improved maintenance training irrespective of training aircraft availability through an adaptive learning environment will improve workload balance and result in improved aircraft availability. Innovative training will provide increased training with measurable effectiveness that will save costs and appeal to next generation airmen.
