Research abstract

Our modern military rely heavily on GPS for accurate navigation for a wide range of applications such as missiles, munitions, a variety of aircraft and surface ships and underwater weapon systems, etc. As the importance of GPS for military applications has increased, threats to the GPS navigation capability (navigation warfare) have also increased. Methods to mitigate these threats such as augmenting traditional L1 and L2 signals with new L5 signals becomes necessary. The GTAS Phase II program will leverage the results of the Phase I feasibility study and will focus on further optimizing the Size, Weight and Power (SWaP) of the antenna electronics unit tailored to meet the performance and SWaP constraints of a weapon system. The GTAS prototype unit will be designed to operate with any Government specified small size antenna array. The Mayflower GTAS Phase II program will design, build, laboratory test and demonstrate a GTAS AE prototype unit that provides protection against varying jammer threats across three GPS bands (L1/L2/L5). In addition to providing jammer threat protection across multiple GPS bands the GTAS solution will implement a ‘Smart AJ’ algorithm based upon the threat scenario and receiver platform status indication. Examples of GTAS operation modes are: simultaneous
