Research abstract

In this project we extend the general framework for cognitive sensing to the problem of a network and bandwidth constrained Tactical Electronic Warfare system. The cognitive framework provide the context for establishing Quality of Service measures against which the tactical picture produced by the tracking and fusion component of the Fully Adaptive EW Architecture (FAEA) is continuously assessed. This assessment process determines information needs from the Edge EW sensor nodes. This composite information stream is the bandwidth of remote data gathered need to be passed by networks to the central FAEA system for processing, fusion, and tactical picture production. Our approach is fully principled and a novel approach to managing the EW component of a set of Tactical ISR and combat assets. The project will demonstrate the theory and reduce it to practice on a Limited Scope simulation. An important feature is the inherent design of the system to configure itself to respond to the tactical requirements as expressed to it by the command team operating and manning the system. Our approach is generalizable to other distributed remote sensing systems where communications may be intermittent or constrained and prioritization is necessary.
