Research abstract

MicroLink Devices proposes to develop an advanced solar array encapsulating materials that reduce the reflection of light at shallow incidence angles and apply these materials onto the ELO solar cell array for greater solar energy generation at low angles compared to the current manufactured arrays. This is a breakthrough technology that can answer the needs of the Air Force in identifying an ultra-long endurance UAV system capable of continuous intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) for battlefield awareness year-round and in regions of higher latitude. In this Phase I effort, MicroLink Devices will develop this advanced material, integrate it onto the ELO solar arrays, and quantify the improvement in energy harvesting observed.
