Research abstract

We solved the Air Force’s need for tools and techniques which enable the rapid cyber assessment of avionics components by providing a plug and play appliance, to help SAF A3C/A6C understand and mitigate cyber risks to the aviation ecosystem. We will recognize profit by charging our non-defense commercial customers to achieve both defense and non-defense commercial benefit. The goal and benefit for this program is to understand vulnerabilities associated with ARINC 429 and MILSPEC 1553 data busses, the traffic passing over those busses, comparing that traffic to appropriate standards, and then developing mitigations to improve resilience of military (and civil) aircraft. Securboration will improve operational assessments using the Vfortified Instrumented Bus Reliability Activity Net Tracker (VIBRANT) against validated cyber threats and MILSPEC 1553 communication standards. To improve the CAP’s current “Find, Fix, and Verify process Securboration visited with several AF commanders to describe in detail our concept and implementation ideas. Specifically, to capture a baseline of data exchanged on a both ARINC 429 and MILSPEC 1553 data busses, based on civil and military standards, in a way which makes apparent cyber vulnerabilities and then to develop mitigations applicable to both military and civil derivative aircraft.
