Research abstract

Toyon Research Corp. and Hood Tech Corp. propose a combined hardware-software solution for image-based direct computation of target geo-coordinates using gimbal video and metadata, and an integrated laser range finder. The development is focused on small-gimbal systems suitable for use onboard small unmanned aerial systems (SUAS). The proposed Phase II development includes gimbal hardware modifications for visible and infrared imaging, laser range finding, and improved GPS/INS-based position data. The proposed Phase II development also includes algorithm and software development for estimating, tracking, and correcting for geo-location system errors. Software interface development between the gimbal and the algorithms is included, as is development of the standards-based output data interface. Flight testing of the developed gimbal is planned, and the prototype gimbal and software will be delivered to the government.
