Research abstract

Problem: Smartphones and other mobile devices are becoming AF users’ primary digital tool, overtaking computers and desk phones as their go-to devices. However, these commercial devices are susceptible to being comprised, are carried with users everywhere, and are now restricted from secure spaces due to their ability to listen through microphones and watch through cameras. Blanket mobile device restrictions and bans in secure spaces have already been identified as having negative impact on mission accomplishment, workforce productivity, and morale. Both the Committee on National Security Systems and Pentagon Mobile Device Restriction Memorandum provide guidance for exceptions allowing the use of mobile devices in secure spaces. Both documents reference disabling microphone and camera functionality. Solution: Privoro’s SafeCase is a intelligent, highly-secure, modular COTS smartphone case that intelligently blocks microphones / cameras and supports robust policy enforcement and reporting. SafeCase also provides a secure platform for enhanced capabilities, such as mobile device manager integration, blue force tracking, geofencing, assured identity, and continuous multi-factor authentication. This commercially available solution is a second-generation, US investor-backed product currently in trials with corporate and government customers, and it promises to enable Defense organizations to maximize the transformational value of mobile devices while simultaneously protecting sensitive information
